Why Pompeii?Paintings from antiquity almost never survive—paint,after all, is often a significantly less long lasting medium than stone or bronze sculpture. However it is thanks to the historic Roman city of Pompeii that we can trace the record of Roman wall painting. All the metropolis was buried in volcanic ash in seventy nine C.E. if the volca
